When Rose was a few months old, I got her to smile by taking a little fuzzy bear and gently rubbing her cheek and telling her what a beautiful baby she was.

We took her to children’s hospital in St. Paul when she came down with pneumonia.  The doctor and nurses were really surprised how Rose responded to me when I walked into the room –  big difference.

Rose died at seven months.  During that time, her brothers and sisters learned how to show compassion, empathy and appreciation for life to all people – at home, at school, in the workplace and at social gatherings.  A unique gift they would never have acquired if Rose had not lived.   Rose died after a few months on earth but the values she taught people by her mere presence will live forever in the hearts of all those who knew her.
